Walking A Sacred Path Together
A Short Story:
I had finally arrived in Belfast, all my deliveries for the day were complete and was ready for stretch break. It was the most gorgeous spring day with all the green grass, yellow flowers and bright blue sky - an irresistibly delicious day to get fresh air and connect with nature.
After looking for potential places to walk around, I found this open park near the ocean that I have driven by so many times - today was the day to check it out. With a clear wide walking path, I begin walking joyfully as the sunshines on my face and I am surrounded by green hills of spring’s freshly emerging grass.
Looking over to my left admiring the nautical scenery, I suddenly discover a hidden gem out of no where - a labyrinth! I couldn’t wait to call Suzanne to tell her about this and share my excitement. I wished she was here with me to see this in person. She let me know she was just about to start walking around the neighborhood back in Rockland.
Then I thought, even though we are 6 towns away from each other, let’s walk together!
There was a small pamphlet that explained about how to walk this labyrinth and broke it down into three parts. I started reading out loud while we were on the phone and we began to enter the sacred path together.
We began setting an intention for our walk for the first part, being open to release. As I carefully, slowly and patiently navigated the twists and curves throughout the path, I became aware of how my breath and each step were connecting more and synchronizing. Suzanne felt her body relaxing more and we both felt our minds full of busyness began to start unwinding.
After arriving to the center, we paused and registered the second part which was receiving. Being open to receiving solutions, answers, ideas.
And we took steps going back the way we came, however we both realized that we felt different on the way out than on the way in. We could feel something had shifted inside of us, something hopeful, something positive, something that will bring resolution to our worries.
As we exited the labyrinth, we paused in gratitude for being able to walk this sacred path together, even though we were apart. We corrugated the distance between us and brought each other close up so we felt no distance at all. Present in the moment with each other, with Mother Nature and with our beautiful day. What a gift!
Feel free to visit this labyrinth (dedicated to a progressive thinker from the 1800s name Phineas Parkhurst Quimby) in Belfast, across the street from the United Farmers Market on Miller Street.
